Super slimmer makes a splash in TV advert

A SUPER slimmer who shed three stones rubbed shoulders with a superstar in a £15 million advertising campaign.

Liz Stannard auditioned for a Weight Watchers ad, not thinking that it would end with her playing a starring role alongside former Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon.

The three-and-a-half minute clip is a music video, fronted by Miss Dixon singing a number based on lines from all 180 men and women.

Liz (46), who leads a Weight Watchers group, is in the swimming pool scene, singing under water.

She said: “At the audition I had to sing into a hair brush. I was very surprised to get called back because I’m not the greatest singer.

“It was great fun to do. I loved it, really loved it and watching it back on New Year’s Day I just wanted to watch it again and again.

“And Alesha wrote the song using lines we had all said in interview. It’s really wonderful to hear my line being sung.”

The main ad went out on New Year’s Day at about the same time across nearly every channel.

It features the 180 men and women preparing for a night out before joining together to march down a cobbled London street.

The directors, advertising experts Saatchi and Saatchi, wanted it to look spontaneous and there was little preparation for the performers, most of whom had never done anything like it before.

And now the ad has been broken down into smaller slots with mini-interviews with some of the participants.

Liz was one of those interviewed and sees her in a dressing gown sitting on the side next to the swimming pool.

Her line which is used in the number, sung by Alesha Dixon herself, is: “I didn’t like my photo but I’m loving it now.”

And now the adverts and Liz’s participation in it is providing an inspiration to the people in her classes.

She said: “It’s great to be able to tell the success stories of the people who are in the film.

“People watching it know they are real people who found success on the Weight Watchers plan.”

Liz runs three Weight Watchers groups in; Hartford, Huntingdon on a Tuesday at 6.30pm in Hartford Junior School; Kimbolton in the Mandeville Hall on a Wednesday morning at 9.30am and Whittlesey at the Ivy Leaf Club on a Thursday at 10am.
