AN Peterborough NHS project which aims to improve people's health through workplace initiatives has won an award.Healthy Weight Peterborough was recognised for its "success in partnership working" at the Health and Social Care awards.

It was a national finalist – being the only project linked to weight management – at the event held at Wembley Stadium.

The awards, organised by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, highlight innovative work across health and social care.

It also aims to recognise and encourage partnership working between organisations and professions.

Healthy Weight Peterborough works with employers to develop and implement policies which encourage staff to make healthy choices, support weight management and provide information on activities available in the area.

Organisations taking part in the scheme also offer healthy food choices onsite.

Since its inception in 2007 Healthy Weight Peterborough in the workplace has far exceeded its initial targets and continues to make strides in influencing health and lifestyle choices in Peterborough by working with local employers.

Senior Public Health Dietitian Rachel Cooke said: "We were very proud to get to the national finals, and amazed to be the only project linked to weight/health in today's climate of increasing obesity levels. People spend a large proportion of their day at work, so we hope that getting healthy living messages and support out through workplaces will prove effective."
