A HOSPITAL radio stalwart has bowed out after 30 years on the airwaves.

Chris Redman, who has been a presenter for the 590 radio station, serving Peterborough City Hospital and before it the old district hospital, for three decades, retired last week.

Mr Redman, who has become a firm favourite among hospital staff and patients during his time, was given a special send-off on Thursday.

He was presented with a certificate from the Mayor of Peterborough cllr Paula Thacker and hospital staff gave him an engraved plaque and special enamel badge.

Kevin English, manager of the 590 radio station, said: “Chris is going to be sorely missed by everyone here at the station.

“He’s become a real pillar of the station who played an active role in our fund-raising events.

“Chris made a real effort to get out and visit patients in the wards so he became a very recognisable figure.

“He was previously the station’s manager and presented his own show every Wednesday.

“He played all sorts of music but his favourite records were by the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band.

“I’m going to make an effort to keep on playing them so that his legacy lives on.”
