Norovirus closes another ward at hospital
DISRUPTION continues at Peterborough’s £289 million super hospital following the outbreak of the norovirus.
Another ward at Peterborough City Hospital was closed over the weekend, but operators Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust were also able to re-open two wards previously struck by the dreaded bug.
Ward B6 (orthopaedic) was closed on Saturday following incidents of diarrhoea and vomiting among both patients and staff, a trust spokeswoman said.
Ward A8 (renal) and A10 (gastroenterology) were re-opened as there had been no new incidents of diarrhoea and vomiting and the deep cleaning processes had been completed, she added.
Ward A9 (medicine for the elderly), however, remains closed as there were new outbreaks among patients over the weekend.
At one point last week four wards were closed due to the highly contagious virus.
The outbreak prompted Peterborough Local Involvement Network (LINk), which represents patients to call on the hospital to make it clear how it has learned from past problems.
