New ambulances for Peterborough

Twenty emergency ambulances have been replaced and another 36 emergency vehicles will enter service in June across the region, including in the city, taking the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust’s (EEAST) Trust’s fleet to 323 ambulances.

Paul Henry, Head of Operations Support/ Assistant Chief Ambulance Officer, said: “I am delighted to see the programme to modernise the fleet continue. The ambulances will be equipped with a full set of brand new medical devices and the most efficient engine technology. This means better and more reliable transport for patients and staff, something we know that can have a big impact on our quality of response.

“We will continue a rolling programme of vehicle replacements to ensure the fleet continues to meet operational requirements.”

These new vehicles are part of the service’s plan to improve patient care and drive forward the massive vehicle replacement programme, which began nearly two years ago.

It’s meant that ambulance service has replaced 267 ambulances in six counties.

All vehicles are built on Mercedes Benz 519 Chassis with a coach built patient saloon and the most efficient Euro 6 engine technology.

The rigorous programme ensures that no emergency ambulance is older than five years of age.
