Health bosses advise on beating cold snap
HEALTH bosses are advising people to keep warm and well by taking some basic safety measures.
The alarm has been sounded by NHS Peterborough and NHS Cambridgeshire after forecasters warned that a cold snap is looming for the country.
Dr Andy Liggins, director of public health at NHS Peterborough, said: “For vulnerable groups, such as older people and people with long term health conditions, getting too cold during the winter months can trigger chest infections and heart problems.
“At this time of year it is important that people wrap up warm and eat as well as possible to avoid health problems that can be triggered as a result of cold weather.
“And it’s important for all of us to remember the needs of friends, elderly relatives and neighbours who could be at risk.
He said: “Our advice is that if you know someone who is at risk you can help them by checking on them to make sure that they are safe and well, making sure they are warm enough especially at night, stocking up on food and medicines.
He added: “Icy pavements and roads can be very slippery, so people who are vulnerable to falling are advised not to go out in icy weather unless absolutely necessary.”
