All change in health management in the city

Health news: Peterborough City Hospital - PeterboroughToday.co.uk from The Evening Telegraph

PETERBOROUGH is “ahead of the game” in changing the way health care is organised according to NHS chiefs in the city.

The Government is currently in the process of scrapping primary care trusts as part of a radical shake-up which will see doctors take a lead in running the organisation locally.

NHS Peterborough, the Primary Care Trust (PCT) for the city, recently merged with NHS Cambridgeshire and is drawing up the reorganisation for the county.

At Peterborough City Council’s Scrutiny Commission for Health on Tuesday, Dr Mike Caskey, chairman of the clinical commissioning sub-committee of NHS Peterborough, provided an update.

He said: “We are ahead of the game when compared both nationally and regionally.”

He added that it will be good for Peterborough.

The new-look system, which will come into play next year, will see a county-wide Clinical Commissioning Group set up.

This will take over the role of purchasing services, such as paying for Peterborough City Hospital and, it is claimed, will be run by clinicians rather than bureaucrats.

The CCG will be broken down into eight Local Commissioning Groups (LCGs) one of which will be Peterborough.

Dr Caskey said they had fought hard to make the city a CCG in its own right but had reached a compromise.

He added: “We have been urging for a very independent feeling LCG. It will be as independent and autonomous as possible.”

The loss of Peterborough’s own commissioning trust came under fire from the boss of Peterborough City Hospital.

Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting of the governors of Peterborough and Stamford NHS Foundation Trust, Nigel Hards said it was disappointing there would not be a trust just for Peterborough.

The trust chairman said: “It was disappointing for Peterborough as a unitary authority to lose that standing.”

Good luck sir @Aressee, on the cleaning point, the cleaning is run by a private company, when the cleaners went private, standards went downhill, what you saw is not unusual and takes place on all wards, thats just what happens when things go private. They cut corners and employ less staff to make more money.

An another thing, the clinics in the hospital are all over the place! I attended the 'Cardiac investigations dept' for an ECG earlier this month. I and many, many others attending really struggled to get there with our condition, it's a long hike believe me, only to be told after struggling along the lengthy corridors (which don't have any benches or seating to rest on) that there is an 'accompanying service' available for those who struggled to get there! Why don't they tell you this on the appointment letter or at the front reception?

By the way, can anyone explain why there are only 4 disabled parking spots outside of the new hospital entrance (and they're outside casualty), there is a full disabled car park opposite the main entrance - But believe it or not it's time limited to 2 hours! I've had 3 appointments so far in this new year and have never even been seen within 2 hours let alone been in and out in that time.

Perhaps they could start by employing a few more cleaners. I was in casualty in early Jan and the cubicle was disgustingly filthy with bloody swabs, needle covers, bloody blue coloured waste paper and bits of bandages with 'stuff' on them and generally pretty filthy and grotty. The staff were brilliant but the place was disgusting.
