Peterborough City Hospital has been given planning permission to expand its dialysis unit.

Earlier this year, the Trust was awarded a new contract to work in partnership with Leicester’s Hospitals to expand the outpatient haemodialysis capacity available in Peterborough.

Planning permission has now been granted and the new purpose-built unit is on track to receive its first patients in early 2017.

The unit will be adjacent to Peterborough City Hospital with 10 additional dialysis stations, providing space for up to an additional 60 patients.

Frieder Kleemann, Consultant Nephrologist at Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted that the expansion is taking place, enabling us to offer regular dialysis locally to all patients from the Peterborough area.

“We look forward to keeping our patients and the public updated as we move forward with the expansion project.”
