The Trusts running Hinchingbrooke and Peterborough and Stamford hospitals have signed a memorandum of understanding that sets out their agreement to work together to develop a Full Business Case that recommends the merger of the two hospital trusts on 1 April 2017.
The Full Business Case follows approval of the Outline Business Case, which recommended a merger as the best of four options presented to the trust boards in May. The Full Business Case will be presented to the boards for their approval in September. A period of engagement has begun and the hospital trusts are keen to hear people’s views. These will be used to help inform the Full Business Case.
In a joint statement, the trusts’ chief executives, Lance McCarthy of Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust and Stephen Graves of Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Both our trusts are passionate about providing quality services that are better, safer, and local. This work supports the future delivery of sustainable services from all three hospitals, working together as one Foundation Trust that is clinically, financially and organisationally stronger.
“We are now working together to develop the Full Business Case that will confirm savings and costs, set out in-depth details of how the proposed merger will be implemented, and how it will benefit patients and taxpayers by reducing the duplication of corporate and back office costs.
“During the next three months we are engaging with members of the public to inform them of our proposed plans to merge, reassure them of our commitment to providing a local service, and to ask for their views to help inform the Full Business Case.
“We particularly want to know what people think about creating local constituencies and governors who will separately represent the three areas surrounding Hinchingbrooke, Peterborough and Stamford hospitals. We also want to hear what people think we should call the proposed new organisation.”
A number of public events will take place over the summer for people to learn more about the agreement. They will take place on:
Thursday 28 July, 9.30am – Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHSTrust Board Meeting, Education Centre, Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The proposed merger will be discussed at 11.30am following the conclusion of formal board business.
Thursday 28 July, 5.15pm – Annual Public Meeting of Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This takes place in the Lecture Theatre, Peterborough City Hospital. As well as hearing about the Trust’s performance in the past financial year, there will be a question and answer session specifically on the proposed merger plan a part of this event.
Thursday 4 August, 10am – New Meeting Hall, Stamford Hospital. Members of the public can meet the Chief Executives of both hospital trusts, and other board members, and raise questions/share views.
Tuesday 9 August, 6pm – The Fleet, High Street, Fletton, Peterborough. Healthwatch Peterborough is hosting this event, with attendance from senior board members of both Trusts.
Wednesday 10 August, 2pm and 5.30pm – Hinchingbrooke House, Brampton Road, Huntingdon. Two events taking place for members of the public to meet the Chief Executives of both hospital trusts, and other board members, so they can raise questions and share views.
Wednesday 31 August, 1.30pm – Peterborough City Hospital, Board Room, Level 4. Core A. Board meeting held in public. There will be an opportunity for members of the public to raise questions after formal board business is concluded.
Friday 2 September, 4pm – Peterborough Town Hall. Members of the public can meet the Chief Executives of both hospital trusts, and other board members, and raise questions/share views.
Monday 5 September, 4pm and 5.30pm – Huntingdon Town Hall. Two events planned for members of the public to meet the Chief Executives of both hospital trusts, and other board members, and raise questions/share views.
