Four homes had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in a block of flats in Dogsthorpe at the weekend.

Crews from Dogsthorpe, Stanground and Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to the blaze in Lilac Road, Dogsthorpe at 9.37am on Saturday, August 15.

Smoke was billowing from the rear of the property and a fire had broken out in a first floor flat, measuring about 10m by 10m. The flat was in a block of four and three other properties were evacuated safely.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire. Nobody was injured in the fire.

Damage to the inside of the property was severe in the room where the fire started and positive pressure ventilation fans were used to clear smoke from the rest of the flat.

Crews returned to their stations by 11.35am. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
