A well respected firefighter has retired after serving Cambridgeshire for 37 years. Watch Commander Tim Thompson (54) said farewell to friends when he retired from his latest position managing a watch at Stanground Fire Station.

Group Commander Chris Parker, who presented Tim with a firefighting figurine, said: “Tim was an extremely well respected and dedicated member of Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service over more than three decades. He has served across the whole county throughout his career and his commitment to support new and existing firefighters in their operational development will be greatly missed.”

Peterborough resident Tim first joined the service as an on-call firefighter serving alongside his father in Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade in 1978.
