Top award for township's developers

THE township's developers have claimed a top national award for street design.O&H Hampton, landowners of the Hampton development, claimed the IHT/Dft Manual for Streets Award.

The award was given to O&H in partnership with its consultant civil engineers, Peter Brett Associates and Master Planners, and David Lock Associates.

The prize was given at this year's annual Institution of Highways and Transportation Award ceremony, and was awarded in recognition of outstanding street designs in new developments.

The awards judges said that the area had won the award for excellent street design, despite limitations on what they could do.

The judges said: "This scheme was constrained by existing networks but made a very good attempt to reduce impact.

"Given the major trunk road running through the centre, a very balanced approach was taken, allowing a comfortable equilibrium between movement and place.

"This was considered both innovative in terms of plans and a comprehensive entry."

General manager for O&H Hampton Roger Tallowin said he was delighted to pick up the award.

"After many successful years of partnership working with these two firms of consultants, I am delighted that we have received this Award for Hampton.

"The expertise within this partnership has enabled us to go from innovative concept to fruition for the benefit not only of the Hampton development, but also for the city as a whole".

Entry criteria for the awards includes the need to demonstrate collaboration between those involved in design approval and adoption processes; providing a safe environment in which people can live, work and play; and encouraging environmentally-sustainable travel choices.
