After thrilling audiences with My Fair Lady, and visiting Siam in The King and I, talented pupils from Arthur Mellows Village College are now bound for Arabia for a new telling of the ancient tales.

Pupils from all years of the school from Year 7 (age 11) through to Year 13 (age 18) will be taking to the stage in a cast that will number around 100.

It is a full-scale musical production, with songs and dancing to illustrate the fabled story.

It is the legendary tale of Sheherazade and her marriage to King Shahryar.

The king has vowed to marry a new wife every day and have her executed the following morning, after finding that his first wife was unfaithful to him.

Sheherazade avoids this dreadful fate by telling the king a series of fantastic stories, and never finishing until the next night.

Then she begins the telling of another story

These include Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, The Little Beggar and Sinbad The Sailor, which are all legendary and the source of many adventure films and pantomimes in their own right.

This full-scale musical brings these stories to life, and promises to be a perfect vehicle for the enthusiastic and talented youngsters from Arthur Mellows.

Arabian Nights is at the Key Theatre from Thursday until Saturday, March 6, nightly at 7.30pm

Tickets cost 8.50 from 01733 207239 or visit www.peterborough.gov.uk/leisure_and_culture/key_theatre.aspx.

Forthcoming shows at the venue include Oklahoma, The Mating Game, The Graduate, Glam Busta, The Black Veil and The Caretaker.
