THE Long Way Home is heart-warming story for the whole family. Its coming to the Key Theatre, Arthur Mellows Village College and Fullbridge Primary School in Peterborough.Written by talented playwright Charles Way, it tells the story of an old woman who decides to walk home to the seaside of her birth.

Eastern Angles use music, puppetry and storytelling techniques to bring this contemporary tale to life.

The story centres on the spirited old woman and her pilgrimage.

As she treks across the land, the old mother meets an abandoned dog-boy and a tender friendship is forged.

On the way, the two companions encounter a series of strange and unsettling characters - a distraught mother, a proud farmer, dangerous bandits and ghosts from the past all fighting their own personal battles.

This production has been directed by Naomi Jones, who also directed Lincoln Road, which was so well-received in Peterborough last year.

Speaking about the play, Naomi said: "In a sense it's a traditional folk tale. It was a lot of fun directing it, and it's now being toured for nearly four months.

"There is some singing, and wooden puppets are used in the traditional sense.

"Peterborough people will recognise Theo, who plays the dog-boy, as he was also in Lincoln Road."

Naomi revealed that there are plans to come back to Peterborough with an extended version of Lincoln Road later in the year.

She added: "I enjoyed working in Peterborough during Lincoln Road. I have to say I was surprised by its history, even though I grew up near Cambridge.

"Lincoln Road is the spine of the city. I spoke to so many interesting people when researching the play, that there's definitely scope to do more, especially so I bring more actors into the play."

The Long Way Home is at the Peterborough Key Theatre; on March 8; Arthur Mellows Village College on March 9; and Fulbridge Primary School; on March 10.

Tickets for the school shows cost only 5 each.
