Review: Iglu & Hartly at The Met Lounge

IF you end up on stage dancing with the band, you're not going to forget the gig in a hurry.

IF you end up on stage dancing with the band, you're not going to forget the gig in a hurry. For those 30 girls who were invited up during the encore, this Iglu & Hartly show would have been the talk of the college the next day.

Moved from the Cresset, to the smaller Met Lounge, these five American pop-rockers turned Tuesday into a Friday.

Loaded with an armoury of catchy choruses and oozing surf-style, the Californians aren't afraid to let their hair down. It's a simple formula.

Frontman and lead vocalist Jarvis Anderson led the blend of dancing and jumping to establish a strong bond with the audience, which saw most of the room dizzy from bouncing by the end of the night.

The performance was one of a group of friends who don't take themselves too seriously, and enjoy making music as much as they do having fun.

Constantly bantering with the crowd, having a whistling contest and encouraging girls to get on boys' shoulders, it's more of a circus at times.

However, this doesn't completely divert your attention from the fact Iglu & Hartly don't really have that many song style ideas. It's riff and rap.

Ending the set with an extended version of hit single In This City, the band encouraged girls up on stage to dance with them for the encore, which included new single Day Glo.

Support came from New Politics, an electro-rap band from the USA that spewed passion and fun.

Opening the night were I Only Date Models, who again won some new fans with their down-tempo rock.
