Reverend's honoured for service
The Rev Richard Paten has been recognised for years of devoted service to a variety of voluntary and community organisations in Peterborough.
The Rev Richard Paten has been recognised for years of devoted service to a variety of voluntary and community organisations in Peterborough.He played a key role in harmonious race relations in the city, Mr Paten was the first chairman of Peterborough Council for Community Relations and founded and chaired the Peterborough Interfaith Council.
Mr Paten has also served as the chairman of the Peterborough Branch of the United Nations Association of the United Kingdom.
He played active roles with Nene Housing Association and Peterborough Civic Society, but Mr Paten is perhaps best known as the founder and chairman of Nene Valley Railway.
He organised the purchase of the railway’s first steam locomotive, which was named City of Peterborough.
Mr Paten went on to found the Museum of World Railways, which is now known as Railworld.
The museum has been identified as Peterborough’s sustainable transport centre for the 21st Century Rail Showcase.
