PREPARATIONS are under way for the Market Deeping Carnival on July 4.The annual event, which takes place at John Eve Park, in Godsey Lane, on July 4, hopes to attract around 6,000 visitors.
This year's carnival, organised by Market Deeping and District Lions, will feature the American Civil War Society with its 200 members "iving" authentically as soldiers with their families in tents and fighting battles through the day.
There will also be a funfair, stalls, a procession and refreshments.
A procession of floats will be leaving Deepings Leisure Centre in Park Road at 1pm on Saturday before winding its way through the town to finish at the John Eve Playing Field.
This year's parade will also include a 60-strong Fife and drum band, provided by the civil war re-enactment. The Lions are also hoping that the American war group will be a major attraction and will be inviting 39 schools in the area to come around the camp along with taking part on the big day.
The Lions are also now looking for a lucky youngster who will lead the parade as Carnival Queen.
The competition is open to girls aged over 12. Anyone wishing to take part in the competition should call Nigel Wilson on 07977 242387.
Entry to the carnival is free, and the gates open from 10am to 5pm.
