IT'S not just the Key Theatre which will be full of half-term fun this week, there's plenty of other places to entertain the kids.Children will have the chance to meet Floppy the Dog this half-term at some of the Peterborough's libraries.

Floppy the Dog features in the popular Oxford Reading Tree scheme used by many Key Stage 1 classes in primary schools.

He will be posing for pictures with youngsters who will all receive I've met Floppy stickers.

Floppy will be appearing at Orton Library from 10.45am to 11.15am on Monday; Werrington Library from 1.30pm to 2pm on Tuesday; Central Library from 3pm to 3.30pm on Tuesday; Bretton Library from 2pm to 2.30pm on Thursday; Stanground Library from 4pm to 4.30pm on Thursday and from 11am to noon at Serpentine Green, in Hampton, on Saturday, February 20.

Some of the sessions coincide with regular story, rhyme time or craft sessions, which are great fun for everyone aged five and under, and parents or carers.

The city council's reading promotion and event coordinator Gill Benedikz said: "The libraries have a great selection of picture books and animal stories to choose from which can be borrowed with a library card. If you're not a member, you can join on the day - it's free and takes just two minutes."

These are free events and there is no need to book. For more details, call your local library on 01733 864280.

Youngsters aged three to seven can join the Watch the Birdie event, which will show them how to identify and look after the birds in their garden.

They can also take part in craft activities, sing songs and hear stories. Children can wear their green balloon T-shirt to this event.

Older children (aged seven to 11) can take part in Wacky Winter Olympics events, which involve silly sports and challenges.

Call 01733 864280 to find out when the events are on at your library.

A half-term of fun lies ahead for youngsters who attend the holiday scheme at Bushfield Sports Centre from Monday to Friday.

The schemes are run by Peterborough City Council's sports development team and will offer a packed programme of fun sports and games for boys and girls aged between seven and 16 years old.

The sessions take place from 10am to noon for children aged seven to 11. These cost 3. For young people aged 12 to 16, the sessions cost 4 and run from 1pm to 3pm. Sports involved are football, volleyball, racquet sports, dance and dodgeball.

To book a place, call the city council's sports development officer Scott Beasley on 01733 863760.
