A DISABLED schoolgirl has been presented with a brand new tricycle after a successful charity event raised nearly 1,300.The fund-raising evening at the Woadman's Arms in Newton, near Wisbech, was organised for 11-year-old Lauren Hawkins, whose grandmother, Marilyn, is a regular at the pub.
Mrs Hawkins had been struggling to save up the cash to buy a trike for her granddaughter, who suffers from cerebral palsy, until pub staff stepped in and offered to host the event.
"It was absolutely fantastic. Everyone was so kind," Mrs Hawkins said.
Among the many activities which took place as part of the fund-raising evening were a raffle and an auction, with a flight in a light aircraft the top prize.
Mrs Hawkins picked Lauren's new tricycle from Bike Care in March, and some of the money raised has paid for adjustments including a back rest and special pedals.
She said her granddaughter was delighted to be presented with the gift.
She said: "She loved it. Once she got the hang of riding it and steering, there was no stopping her."
Because the evening made a lot more money than expected, the remaining cash has been donated to Meadowgate School in Wisbech.
Mrs Hawkins said she was grateful to everyone who went to the evening and donated money, reserving special thanks for Woadman's Arms licencees Wendy and Neville Johnson.
