I spent the weekend rowing on the River Nene. A friend and I are paddling an inflatable dinghy from Wales to Peterborough in July to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Research and this was our practice trip. For more information on our expedition, visit www.jewelofthe nene.co.uk
Monday
Today Cross Keys Homes launched its travel plan which involves encouraging staff to travel sustainably to work and on their visits around the city. Cross Keys Homes has been working with Travel Choice and the Energy Saving Trust to promote awareness of sustainable travel. My contribution to the week was my vow to travel to work in a different sustainable way each day.
I start the week cycling to work which took me 20 minutes and arrive at the office in time for the Monday morning battle plan. This is a meeting where we run through key targets for the week and catch up on the status of everyone's projects.
I took handover of a number of new homes at Hampton Vale for rent and shared ownership in the afternoon. This involves snagging the units to make sure they are up to the high standards we expect. I then met with an architect to discuss redesigning a potential affordable scheme in Peterborough, and to finish off the day I went for an amazing barbecue at my friend's house.
Tuesday
Started the day easily by car sharing with my colleague, Charlotte, which took 10 minutes. We then enjoyed a traveller's breakfast laid on as an encouragement to staff to make the effort to travel sustainably. This proved very successful with more than half of staff travelling into work sustainably.
I had an interesting meeting with a developer regarding potential new development opportunities in Peterborough and surrounding villages.
This was followed by a meeting with our solicitors to discuss legal issues for a housing development in Eye. Finished work at 7pm and escaped just seconds before I got locked in by security.
Wednesday
I put my trainers on and ran into work this morning, which took 40 minutes.
I had a quick shower and went straight into a very detailed meeting with a developer to try to move forward on a new development scheme in a village near Peterborough.
Cross Keys Homes launched its pool bikes' scheme today and as I had visits to residents in Hampton scheduled in for the afternoon, I intended to be the first to use one. Unfortunately, it was chucking it down so I had to use my boss's car instead.
Lastly, I attended the client consultation group (CCG) meeting, which involves my team putting forward all the development schemes we have sourced over the past month and presenting them to the CCG group. The group then decides which schemes it would like to take to the next stage of negotiation with the developer. Another late night leaving the office.
Thursday
Caught the bus to work this morning, which took an hour, arriving just in time for a meeting with a national house builder to discuss three potential development sites in the city.
In the afternoon, I presented two development schemes to Cross Keys Homes’ director of resources for sign-off. I then put forward an offer on a 29-unit scheme and crossed my fingers that the developer would accept our proposal. To finish the day we announced the Cross Keys Homes’ prize winners for the sustainable travel week, which included winners of the driving simulator challenge, the sustainable travel quiz and the pedometer challenge. I then played squash in the evening with my dad and brother, and somehow dad won.
Friday
Rode a 1970s tandem into work with my colleague, Hayley, which, surprisingly, only took 30 minutes. I spent the morning appraising four new land opportunities ready for the team to negotiate next week as I was jetting off to Kenya on Saturday. I had a handover meeting in the afternoon with the assistant director for development, Gary, to discuss the schemes I’ve been working on ready for him to cover next week.
To round off the week I went to dinner with some work mates to a great new African Caribbean restaurant, Embe, in Thorpe Road.
