A recent week in the life of Adrian Carter, editor of Hospitality Interiors Magazine.Monday

The day starts with the usual mix of answering e-mails, checking copy for the next issue, and arranging a press trip, which I've been invited to in Bologna, Italy. A leading gym equipment manufacturer, which is very prominent within the luxury hotel sector, has invited me to their head office to check out the latest range, and to discuss advertising and editorial possibilities within our magazine.

Tuesday

Telephone interview with Concrete, an Amsterdam-based architectural practice, for our next issue. Had to make it into the office slightly earlier today to coincide with the European time difference.

Tuesday evening – Took the train to London to meet up with some architect / designers – business contacts as well as friends of mine with whom we work quite frequently. It's all informal and starts with a few beers, followed by drinks at Shoreditch House Members Club.

Wednesday

9am: First job of the day is to put together an agenda for a production meeting that we're having at 10am. This involves discussing the format of the new issue of the magazine with production and sales staff. We're running a special feature on The London Design Festival in September, so it's necessary to brief the sales team so they can explain the feature to their clients who may want to advertise within it.

2pm: After lunch, I have to liaise with a number of PR agencies about potential new features for the magazine. What would once have been a long and laborious job has now been superseded by e-mail. As we review restaurant and hotel design, I've been invited to four new restaurants in London, a hotel in Madeira and also one in Zurich, all for upcoming reviews.

Thursday

The day is spent editing copy we've been sent for four magazine features. I also have to write up two reviews of hotels I've visited recently.

evening: Catch the train to London again. A large Italian furniture manufacturer is opening a new showroom in central London and is hosting a launch party for colleagues, customers, designers, and the press. It's great to escape from the fens for the evening.

After staying for a couple of drinks and speaking to some key people, it''s time to head over to The Kensington Roof Gardens for dinner. Stay with friends in London, as I've got a meeting the next day in London.

Friday

Another contact, this time a bespoke furniture maker and interior design business that I've known for about five years. Their head designer is coming over from Paris during September for The London Design Festival, and we are having a lunch to discuss a feature and an interview. It's been a typically busy week, and it's good to finish it off on a relaxed note.
