Today we are able to share a little piece of history from Peterborough's Italian community. Carlo Broccoli sent in this photograph of the city's first Italian football team, which was formed in 1967/68.
Today we are able to share a little piece of history from Peterborough's Italian community. Carlo Broccoli sent in this photograph of the city's first Italian football team, which was formed in 1967/68.The team's name was Colombo.
Mr Broccoli said: "Colombo never won the Anglo-Italian Cup, we were three time runners up. We lost to London, Bedford and Woking.
"But we did very well, in four years we moved from the fourth division to the Sunday Premier League.
"The name came from our church in Gladstone Street."
Mr Broccoli has been able to give us the names of some of the players.
In the back row, from left, are Mr Bronco, Mr Manna, Mr Vincent, Mr Madan, Mr Clark and Carlo Broccoli, the manager.
In the front row, from left, are Mr Noviello, Mr Melillo, Mr Meo, Mr Carfaro, Mr Hill, Mr Piscopo, Mr Pragliola and Mr Bottiglier.
The players were all aged about 16 to 18 at the time.
We have also found some other photographs of sporting days in the past.
There is Fletton United – the forerunners of Posh – in 1925, and the Posh team of the 1938-39 season.
Away from football, Chatteris boxer Dave 'Boy' Green is pictured with members of his fan club after winning a British title in 1976, and Geoff Capes, the policeman from Holbeach, near Spalding, is pictured showing off his Commonwealth Games gold medal to his children, Lewis and Emma.
