A CURRY night has provided a fund-raising boost towards a former police community support officer's charity trek through India.Jennifer Hemingway is facing the challenge of a lifetime in April when she treks through India to Dharamsala, the home town of the exiled Dalai Lama.
Jenny is well known in Holbeach thanks to her previous police role which she left recently to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
She is busy fund-raising for the trip and Zoe Ansell, landlady at the New Exchange in Holbeach, and Amanda Baxter, of Cuisine Occasions, donated the profits from their recent curry night.
Amanda said: “It was a lovely night. There was a really good atmosphere and at least 20 people came along.
“We have a curry night every Thursday, and just decided to make a donation from this one to Jenny.”
Jenny, who lost her husband to cancer, will be walking for a full six days through passes and along beaten tracks, meeting local people with a lifestyle unchanged for centuries.
So far she has raised 1,362 for the charity and would like to hit 2,000 before she sets off on April 18.
She said: “All types of this horrible disease should and can be beaten by our modern society, but funds are always needed.
“India is a country I have always wanted to visit so I’m going to fund myself.
“That way all the money raised through sponsorship will go directly to the charity.”
