Inspector praises nursery's efforts

TOTS and staff at a Yaxley nursery are celebrating a positive Government inspection.

TOTS and staff at a Yaxley nursery are celebrating a positive Government inspection.Education officers from Ofsted who spent a day at Little Acorns Day Kindergarten in Broadway found the nursery to be of a good standard with an exhaustive action plan which will secure continuous improvements.

Inspectors said the 65 youngsters aged from six months to five years who are on the nursery roll are safe and secure at all times and enjoy learning in a friendly and homely environment.

Strong partnerships with parents and carers also help to ensure that the needs of all children are met and that they feel involved in their children’s care and learning.

Meanwhile, reorganised staff teams ensure that children benefit from their good knowledge and understanding of how children learn and receive effective support to ensure that they make good progress towards the early learning goals.

Inspectors said: “In the relatively short time since this provider has taken over the ownership of this setting huge, positive changes have been made which have had a significant beneficial impact on the quality of provision for the children.

“The hard work of the provider and staff together with an exhaustive action plan for future development provides a very secure platform for continuous improvement.”

Inspectors recommended some steps be taken in order to improve provision further, including developing assessment procedures to ensure children’s next steps of learning are identified across all areas of learning.

They also suggested a review of procedures to ensure good hygiene is consistently promoted.

Deputy manager Rachel Gale said: “Our new manager joined us six months ago and, since then, we have made some positive changes to improve the nursery, which is reflected in the report.

“We are very pleased with the overall report and will take all of the inspectors’ comments on board to further improve the learning for our children at Little Acorns.”
