How much (and little) a wedding can cost

You'll hopefully only have one, and so it's worth splashing out on your wedding day. But while some of us think nothing of spending £5 on a caviar vol-au-vent, others are happy to find a bridal bargain.

You'll hopefully only have one, and so it's worth splashing out on your wedding day. But while some of us think nothing of spending 5 on a caviar vol-au-vent, others are happy to find a bridal bargain. As any dad with daughters of marrying age will tell you, getting wed can easily cost you and arm and a leg.

Barely a week goes by when we don't hear that the average wedding costs 15,000-plus, and then people wonder why fewer and fewer young couples are actually making it down the aisle.

But surely it's possible to get wed without going bankrupt or saving for 60 years? Surely the happiest day of your life doesn't have to be the most expensive?

Obviously, a wedding could be a very cheap affair indeed if you drafted your Auntie Edna in to make the egg and cress sandwiches for the reception, borrowed your gran's wedding dress and asked dad to take a few snaps on his digital camera, but that would surely send stress levels supersonic. The ET tried to find the best wedding it could on the cheap. We know that there are bound to be cheaper wedding services out there, but we have tried to go as low as we could.

With this in mind:

Hannah Gray went all-out to plan Peterborough's most expensive wedding.

Jemma Walton pinched some pennies to put together the city's cheapest.

What do you think? Did your wedding cost the more or less than you planned?
