GRANDPARENTS travelled from as far away as Hull to take part in a very special event held at John Clare Primary School in Helpston.

GRANDPARENTS travelled from as far away as Hull to take part in a very special event held at John Clare Primary School in Helpston.More than 50 grandparents were invited to step into the shoes of their grandchildren and find out what going to school is like in today's society.

They enjoyed school dinners, went outside with their grandchildren during the class break, and even took part in some of their lessons.

Iris Mountain (68) joined her granddaughter Beth Mountain for a day they will never forget.

She said: "For the first time the children had adults to play with in the school grounds. It was a great day for all of us and I know one couple travelled all the way from Hull to be there.

"We also had a beautifully cooked school dinner and my granddaughter was so excited she said it was a lovely day."

Senior teacher Sarah Nicolson said: "It was very successful. We received good feedback from the grandparents. We are thinking about holding another event like this again."
