HAT's the way to put on a show

A HAMPTON drama group will start a new era tonight when it performs its latest production at a new venue.Hampton Amateur Theatre Society (HATS) will hold the charity premiere of Who Cares, Wins at Peterborough High School in Thorpe Road this evening, after performing its last three productions at the Austin Hall in Yaxley.

Tonight will be the first of three performances of the two-act comedy, and will see the group raising money for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.

Among the guests attending the show will be the Mayor of Peterborough Pat Nash, and it is hoped that a large audience will turn up to help support the charity.

The group has spent the last week locked in dress rehearsals and technical run-throughs, and says it is now prepared for the best show it has ever given.

The show is made up of two short plays, both with a medical theme to go along with the charity it is supporting.

Giselle Rawlings, who will be appearing in both sections of the play said: "Everyone is raring to go, and looking forward to making people laugh.

"It will be the same style of comedy that people like about HATS – a bit of slapstick – so we are sure it will be a success."

The first section of the play will be called Bye-Bye Mr Heim, written by Tony Layton. The play will tell the story of Walter Heim, a mysterious car-accident victim who arrives in a hospital and has left his doctor and nurse wondering what he's been up-to, as he receives several mysterious visitors.

The second part of the show will be entitled Blue Suede Blues, by Diana Raffle.

In the performance two nursing home residents fed up with the tedium of living in the home attempt to add a touch of excitement to their lives.

The show is the fourth the group has staged, following on from Holiday Confusion in 2005, Oh What A Life in 2006, and Playing Away last year.

The three performances of the show will take place tonight, tomorrow and on Saturday, with each show starting at 8pm.

Tickets for each show are still available, costing 5 for adults, 4 for concessions. A family ticket is also available, costing 15 for two adults and two children.

Tickets can be bought on the door, or from the groups website, with the tickets being put aside to be collected on the door.
