SOME of Peterborough's treasures were shown off to a group of French visitors when an exchange visit was organised by the city's Rotary club.A total of 14 guests from the Rotary club in Bourges, in central France, stayed at the homes of members from the Peterborough club as part of the trip.
Next year the Peterborough club visits Bourges on the 50th anniversary of the twinning of the two clubs – a union that was made the same year the city councils of Bourges and Peterborough agreed to formally unite.
As part of their visit, guests were treated to a trip to Boughton House and the picturesque Rutland Water. An interpreter was on board the coach to explain a bit about the geography and history of the area.
Guests were also taken to Peterborough's Nene Park and Ferry Meadows and enjoyed a trip to the Watersports centre there, where the Peterborough club explained its role in starting up a sailing club for disabled people, using tri-maran boats.
There was also relaxing informal time in a garden in Orton Longueville, where the guests were entertained by a Dixieland jazz quartet.
The trip was rounded off with a presidential dinner at the Bull Hotel, Westgate, which was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Peterborough, Cllr Michael Burton and Beryl Burton.
The Mayor is an honorary member of the Peterborough Rotary Club.
