And, as the years wear on, it's easy to let your beauty regime slide – which can leave you looking far from your best . Jemma Walton looked at five easy ways to make yourself look 10 years younger.NICKY Hambleton-Jones was back on our screens last week, helping snaggly toothed and saggy skinned women – and men – of a certain age to Look 10 Years Younger.
But Ms Hambleton's methods, which can include liposuction, dental work and a complete wardrobe overhaul, take weeks if not months, and several thousand pounds, to see results.
If you haven't got that kind of time and money, don't despair – there are plenty of experts in Peterborough who can shave the years off your face and body to reveal a younger, sexier and more glam you – with hardly any effort at all.
1: How to look 10 years younger part one: Clothes.
FORGET baggy black clothes if you want to look younger – think Liz Hurley rather than Waynetta Slob.
Image coach Sue Donnelly (49) said that many people seem to hit their 40s, and either go for the baggy, comfortable dressing option, or try and cover themselves up. They should, instead, focus on their good parts – such as their waists or bosoms.
She said: "I see a lot of women with large chests who try and hide them away under baggy clothes and high necks. But they shouldn't – if you've got a good feature you shouldn't be afraid of it.
"The best shops for older women are, I think, Hobbs, Principles, Next, John Lewis, Laura Ashley if you're tall and Topshop and New Look for jeans. Warehouse is also very good, but a lot of women think the shop is for young girls and stay away.
"But if you show them the stuff on the Warehouse concession in John Lewis they like the things they have."
Sue, who has written a guide to dressing to look young, said that mums shouldn't be frightened of going into the same shop as their daughters – they should just wear the clothes they buy in a different way, with different accessories.
"Leggings are a really hard look to pull off," she added. "They don't tend to flatter anyone. Just because they're cheap and fashionable, don't be fooled into thinking they'll look OK on you."
As for flat shoes – don't even go there.
Sue offers colour and style sessions, as well as combined colour, style and shopping workshops. Call her on 0845 123 5107, or see www.accentuate.me.uk
Sue's top tips for dressing your age.
a) Build your foundation. The correct underwear can take pounds and years off you. Overhanging flesh, panty lines or lacy bumps visible under the fabric of your garment will instantly ruin the effect.
b) Wear colours that flatter. Black accounts for 75 per cent of women's wear sold in the UK. It can make you look old, tired and wrinkled if it doesn't suit your complexion. It can also make you look heavier than you really are. The same applies to shiny fabrics or metallics. Because they reflect light, they can highlight any wrinkles or blemishes.
c) Be modern. I don't mean "mutton dressed as lamb" or being really trendy but beware of dated clothes and spectacles.
They can add years to you and give you a "matronly" air. If you've worn a "fashion" item, such as leggings with baggy tops, in the past then make sure you are wearing them this time round in a different way.
d) Accessorise. Add dramatic impact with your accessories. As we get older, less is probably more, so don't overdo it or you'll be swamped in glitz which will cheapen the look.
2 How to look 10 years younger part two: Hair.
AS we age it's tempting to think that growing our hair long and dyeing it the same colour it was 20 years ago is the best way of looking young.
But hairdresser Hayley Nickells knows that's far from the case – as she has recently completely overhauled her mum's looks, lopping off and colouring her long blonde locks and shaving 10 years off her face in the process.
"My mum, Mim Vernalls, has dyed her hair for as long as I can remember," said Hayley. "And she's had it blonde for about two years. She used to have it short, and we thought it looked OK, but then she grew it long for my wedding abroad, which was where this picture was taken.
"I saw that picture and told her it was time for a change. I thought she looked washed-out and much older than she is, 43, and so I gave her a tapered bob and changed the colour."
Hayley (23) said she put the warmth – and the youth – back in her mum's face by dyeing her hair heathery brown all over, and giving her really thin burgundy and reddy flecks, which reflect the light and make her hair look shiny and healthy.
It took her one-and-a-half hours and would have cost about 65. "Mum absolutely loved it," she said.
"I think as soon as women hit 40 they start to get conscious of looking older, and the best advice I can give is to keep your hair colour natural. Don't dye it black or really bright blonde, because that will just drain the colour from your face."

3 How to look 10 years younger part three: Skin.
IF you can do one thing to keep your skin looking young, make sure you use the right products for your skin type.
This is according to mum and daughter Natalie Croft and Donna MacLennan who run Crystals hair salon on Westgate.
"You can use a 50 bottle of cream that's wrong for your skin type and you won't see the effects, but you can use a 5 bottle that's right for it and it'll make the world of difference," said Donna (43).
As well as offering a wide range of facials and skin care advice, the pair offer non-surgical facelifts and Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is where outer layers of skin are gently exfoliated.
A non-surgical facelift involves having your face cleansed and toned, and massaged with two prongs that have an electrical current running through them.
The probes help to lift and plump out the skin, and both women have had it done. "It doesn't hurt at all," said Natalie.
"If you have a good skincare routine they effects can last for weeks," she added. "If you are 40 or 50 you might need one every three to four weeks, and then, when you're happy with the changes you've seen it's a case of maintaining that and having it done every six to eight weeks.
"You should always think about going to a beautician before a cosmetic surgeon, because beauticians can really do a lot these days."
The pair said that their average customer tends to be about 35, when most women have got their children through the early stages of their childhood and begin to notice the changes in their skin – although they have given a woman of 72 a facial.
Natalie said that if you want younger skin you should eat well, exercise, drink in moderation and try your hardest to pack up smoking. And two other things make the world of difference are staying out of the sun and drinking plenty of water.
"The sun destroys your skin," said Donna. "You wouldn't stick your hand under the grill, and so why bake your face on a sunbed?"
A non surgical facelift costs 42.50, facials start at 28. Crystals, at 8 Westgate, is available on 01733 563 131.
4 How to look 10 years younger part four: Diet.
GET your friends in on the act if you are hoping to trim down, says Peterborough nutritionist and ET Life columnist Rachel Cooke.
She added: "If you look good you feel good, and most of the people I see feel better when they are a healthy weight."
Her top tips for people wanting to lose weight to look younger are:
a) Make sure you have support from friends, family and colleagues. This will make things much easier for you.
b) Prepare for your weight loss. For example, thinking about losing weight two days before your birthday may not be ideal, also if you have lots of calorie-laden food around, like just after Christmas, use these up before kick-starting your weight loss.
c) Be easy on yourself – do not change everything at once, as small changes bring about big benefits. Think one or two changes in the first month and keep them going.
d) Try filling out a food diary. This can be really revealing – people often say they cannot believe how the number of coffees with sugar or biscuits add up throughout the day. Somehow it seems clearer in black and white.
And make sure you eat breakfast – give your body something to work on throughout the morning.
