Film: Broken Pieces, starring Penelope Cruz

Broken Embraces (15) Peterborough Arts Cinema, Key Theatre Studio, Peterborough, Thursday, 4 March

Broken Embraces (15) Peterborough Arts Cinema, Key Theatre Studio, Peterborough, Thursday, 4 MarchBROKEN Embraces is a Spanish film by Pedro Almodvar set in the 1990s and 2008.

The film centres on a four-way tale of dangerous love, and was shot in the style of a 1950s American film noir.

However, it is filmed in bright color, as most of Almodovar's films are, rather than black and white.

The cast includes many Almodvar regulars such as ngela Molina, Lola Dueas and Penlope Cruz (her fourth film with the director). The film's soundtrack includes Cat Power, Uffie, and Can.

Many themes include noir references such as posters in sets, the lighting and the characters themselves.

The film was accepted into the main selection at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival in competition for the prestigious Palme d'Or, Almodovar's third film to do so and fourth to screen at the festival.

Tickets for the 7.30pm show cost 4 for members or 5 for non members, and can be bought on the door of the studio cinema in Peterborough Key Theatre, The Embankment, Peterborough. The films have switched from the John Clare to the Key for March.
