A group of teenagers were praised for trying to save the life of a 90-year-old woman, from Werrington, Peterborough.The youngsters were flagged down in their cars by distressed 92-year-old Walter Bush, who had run for help when his wife of 69 years, Pearl, collapsed in their bungalow.

One battled to save Mrs Bush by giving chest compressions, while another relayed instructions from paramedics over the phone, but sadly, Mrs Bush died before the ambulance got to her.

Peterborough Crown Court heard how a young boy was forced to live in "horrendous" conditions by his parents for two years.

The boy, who could not be named for legal reasons, was sent to school in dirty clothes and was shunned by classmates.

His parents, who also could not be named, would send him off to school with a dry slice of bread, crisps and chocolate for lunch.

The pair, who admitted neglect, were given two-year community orders with supervision orders.

The father was told he must attend a domestic abuse programme.

DISGRACED former mayor of Peterborough Mohammed Choudhary was found guilty of four counts of trying to rig an election to get re-elected to Peterborough City Council in June 2004.

It was a desperate move which ended in failure for Labour councillor Choudhary, of Cobden Street, Peterborough, who lost the election to a Tory.

At King's Lynn Crown Court, Choudhary, who had denied 10 charges, was found guilty of four counts of forgery after tampering with voting documents.

He was mayor between 1996 and 1997.

The earth shook for hundreds of Peterborians during the biggest earthquake to hit the city for nearly a quarter of a century.

Residents were out in force checking their homes for damage, after the tremors, measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale, woke thousands of people in the early hours of the morning.
