EXTENSIVE preparations are almost complete for next month's 50th anniversary celebrations of Orton Longueville Secondary School. An exhibition at Peterborough Museum, in Priestgate, is set to explore the history of the school from when its Oundle Road site first became home to a secondary school.

The exhibition is being put together by a team of volunteers made up of past and present teachers and pupils with help from museum staff.

It will feature the school's history through the five decades since it first opened as a secondary school.

The display will include the school's old flag, old school uniforms, photos, school work books and pupils' reports.

Items have been donated by past pupils as well as from the collection of Ken Davies, who was a teacher at the school for over 25 years.

He explains: "It was 50 years ago thisspring that the first secondary school on the Orton Longueville site(Orton Longueville Grammar School) opened.

"This was followed two years later by Orton Longueville Secondary Modern School, and then the two schools joined together in 1970 to form Orton Longueville Comprehensive School.

"So this year we are celebrating 50 years of educational achievement and proud tradition at Orton Longueville, and we are inviting any staff and pupils, who have worked or studied at any of the three schools over the past 50 years,to join in with this anniversary."

The exhibition will launch on Tuesday, July 7, with a private viewing for invited guests, including some of the school's past headteachers as well as current staff.

It will then open to the public on Wednesday, July 8, giving people the chance to reminisce about school life.

Ex-pupil Sonal Bharadva, who was at the school between 1995 and 2002, said: "The exhibition sounds like a fantastic idea. I often find myself reminiscing about school days, so I am really looking forward to it."
