AN explosive event raised 25,000 which has been donated to more than 25 city charities. At a handing-over ceremony at Serpentine Green shopping centre in Hampton last night, members of Peterborough Rotary Club – who organised the annual Firework Fiesta at Ferry Meadows along with the Peterborough Round Table team – distributed the money to their chosen charities.

The money was presented to 28 charities, including Peterborough Association for the Blind, Macmillan Cancer Support, Ataxia East, The East Anglian Air Ambulance, Peterborough Motability, Kidney Research, Sue Ryder Care and Friends of Phoenix School.

Spokesman for the Rotary Club Graham Walker said: "The fiesta is a spectacular event, with more than 14,000 of fireworks lighting up the night sky.

"For the first time ever, the Rotary Club and the Round Table decided to get together and present all the cheques to all the different charities in one big event.

"We hope to raise even more money again this year."
