Church fete for 20th birthday

A CHURCH in the Ortons is holding its annual summer fete on Sunday as it celebrates its 20th year.

A CHURCH in the Ortons is holding its annual summer fete on Sunday as it celebrates its 20th year.It is the first of two events to take place at St Luke’s Church Centre, in Benyon Grove, Orton Malborne, in the coming weeks.

St Luke’s summer fete will be held on on Sunday, from noon.

Joining the festivities will be Deacon Luke Goymour, from the parish, who will be ordained deacon in Oscott College, Birmingham, on Saturday.

At the fete, there will be a grand prize draw, with tickets available from the church or from the parish priest Father John Warrington on 01733 370877.

Two weeks later, the church centre will play host to Parish Quiz Night on Saturday, July 11, from 7.30pm.

Teams of six can take part and refreshments will be available.

Bargain hunt at the boot sale

BARGAIN hunters can pick up a good deal or two at a charity car boot sale.

The event is being held at Winyates Primary School, in Winyates, Orton Goldhay, on Sunday, from noon until 4pm.

Pitches cost 5 for cars and 6.50 for vans, and sellers will need to arrive by 10.30am to set up.

All proceeds will go towards the school.

WI sets date for next meeting

A WOMAN’S institute in the district will soon be holding its next meeting.

Orton Waterville WI is meeting at 7.15pm on Wednesday, July 8, at The Village Hall, in Glebe Avenue, Orton Waterville.

The speaker for the evening will be Len Priestley, who will be giving the group another talk on More Confessions of a Lorry Driver.

n Admission costs 2.50 which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.
