Choir gives charity a welcome cash injection

A GROUP of singers from Sawtry helped to raise £500 for charity.

A GROUP of singers from Sawtry helped to raise 500 for charity.Sawtry Vocal Academy shared the stage with Dame Evelyn Glennie at a charity concert in Upton last month.

The group – which holds about six concerts every year – always dedicates one of them to charity.

This year the singers chose the Sawtry and District Care and Resource Organisation (CARESCO).

Sing out co-ordinator Arnie Dunham said: "As we are based in Sawtry we thought it would be great to support one of our local charities.

"CARESCO relies on voluntary funding and the money raised will go towards easing the financial burden and help to look after the older residents in the district.

"The concert was a sell out, and we were delighted with the amount of money that we raised."

At a presentation evening, music director of Vocal Academy and members of Vocal Academy presented the cheque for 500 to the chairman of CARESCO David Whitney.

Vocal Academy will be taking part in the Peterborough Choir Festival at The Cresset, in Rightwell, Bretton, Peterborough, in November.

The group came fourth in last year's competition and hopes to improve on its success this year.
