A HUGE party is being held in Ferry Meadows in August to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Nene Park Trust which manages the park.Features editor Julia Ogden found out more about the events being planned.

STARS from the '80s will be the main attraction at a weekend-long party held at Ferry Meadows in August.

On Saturday, August 8, Limahl, the singer from Kajagoogoo will be performing at the event, and there will be a special guest appearance from '80s DJ and television presenter Pat Sharp.

The fun has been organised by the Nene Park Trust, managers of the country park, to celebrate their 21st anniversary... and everyone is invited to join in.

The activities will take place on August 8 and 9, and will see Ferry Meadows packed full of extra activities, demonstrations and entertainment for all the family to enjoy.

Saturday is party day with Heart FM taking everyone back to the '80s with live music and hosted by regular presenters Kev, Abby and Lee.

An '80s tribute band will perform the biggest hits from the decade, too.

Sunday is play and picnic day with children's rides and a bouncy castle, kite flying demonstrations, outdoor poetry readings and other family activities and entertainment.

Nene Park Trust chief executive James McCulloch said: "2009 is a special year for Nene Park Trust and we wanted to share it with the community and put on an event everyone will remember."

"We really hope that current, old, and maybe even some new visitors to the park will come and join us over the weekend and find out for themselves just how unique the park is – there truly is something for everyone."

The main event will be open from 10am until 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, August 8 and 9. The Heart FM stage and live music will be on Saturday, August 8, from noon until 7pm.

Entrance to the event is free, although some activities may be charged. Car parking charges apply from 10am until 5pm at Ferry Meadows across the weekend, at 3.50 per car per day.

However, there are loads of alternative ways of getting to the event by foot, by bike, by bus or on the Nene Valley Railway.

They will be running an extended timetable across the weekend with regular trains going to and from Peterborough city centre direct to the Ferry Meadows station.

For more details about the bus timetable for the weekend visit www.traveline.org.uk and www.nvr.org.uk for the Nene Valley Railway timetable.
