IT is almost show time in Yaxley, as a group of budding actors put the finishing touches to their latest play.Yaxley Amateur Players (YAP) will perform Not Quite The End Of The Pier Show – a 1940s extravaganza which incorporates comedy and sadness as it unfolds.

The show will be held at Yaxley Public Hall, in Blenheim Way, on Saturday.

“Not Quite” is a musical play in two acts. It is set in The Pavilion Theatre, which is situated at the end of the pier at Littlestones-on-Sea.

The play opens with Neville Chamberlain’s recorded radio broadcast telling the British people that we are at war with Germany.

You then see performers arrive, while others are putting on make-up or costumes. YAP member Christine Akrill said: “It’s set in the 1940s, and is both on stage and backstage at the end of the pier show.

“It tells the story of some of the performers’ lives during the war years and incorporates both comedy and sadness as it unfolds.

“It’s very much a family show, so we are doing two performances.”

Tickets are now on sale for the performances, which will be held on Saturday, at 3pm and 7.30pm.

The group is also busy preparing for its next show, called Adenekin, which has been especially written for the youth group.

Christine added: “It’s a musical story about cats and witches, and the children are having great fun performing it.”

The show will be performed in October.

The group meet at Yaxley Public Hall, on Tuesdays, from 7.30pm.

Anyone interested in joining, or finding out more about what’s involved, should call Eric or Christine Akrill on the numbers below.
