Volunteers brush up on painting skills

MEMBERS of the customer marketing team at Norwich and Peterborough Building Society (N&P) deserted their desks for a day this week – but it was all in a good cause.Nine members of the department, based at Lynch Wood, volunteered their services to N&P staff charity East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) for the day on Wednesday.
They were soon put to work giving the external paintwork at EACH's Milton Hospice a fresh lick of paint.
N&P marketing campaign manager Amanda Goodbun said: "We all really wanted to do our bit for EACH. Lots of staff at N&P are supporting this very worthwhile cause and I'm pleased that the team were keen to roll up their sleeves and get painting.
"It was great to see how our efforts paid off. We were pleased that we could make a difference. We were also given a tour of the hospice which gave us the opportunity to see how the money N&P staff have raised so far is being put to good use."
N&P supports a volunteer programme with EACH which means society staff are still paid by N&P during their volunteer work. In the past, N&P staff have packed Christmas cards to go on sale in EACH charity shops and sorted through donations of clothing at the EACH depot in Thetford.
EACH corporate fund-raiser Sally Cassels said: "Running and maintaining a hospice is an expensive business – the EACH hospice is a home from home, and the charity faces the same DIY and repair bills as any other homeowner.
"It's wonderful for us to receive hands-on help from the energetic volunteers from Norwich and Peterborough – their teamwork was impressive."
