STAFF: Counting the rewards of investing in team

PETERBOROUGH accountancy firm Moore Stephens has achieved the Investors in People (IIP) accreditation.

PETERBOROUGH accountancy firm Moore Stephens has achieved the Investors in People (IIP) accreditation. The award represents the culmination of two years' hard work by the 35-strong team, which provides accountancy, tax and business advisory services.

Achievement of IIP status has taken less than two years, due to the dedication of the team.

Partner Mick Lumsden, who led the office's IIP efforts, said: "I am thrilled that we have achieved the Investors in People Standard. The process has involved a lot of work by our team, and the award is confirmation of the progress we have made. I am especially pleased as the assessment process is based on interviews with the team – it reflects their view of Moore Stephens, not just our ability to produce impressive documents."

The Investors in People assessor praised Moore Stephens for numerous aspects of its training and development practices.

It found that partners had created an environment where everyone was encouraged to contribute ideas to improve their own and colleagues' performance. Managers provided regular feedback to staff, while also listening to them and supporting their development. The strength and effectiveness of the trainee development programme was also demonstrated by a 100 per cent pass rate for the last two years.

Mr Lumsden sees the IIP award as a symbol of the firm's ongoing commitment to developing its people.

He added: "We have always been more committed to the process than to getting the award, and I am confident that we will continue to move forward."

Stephen Hampson, chief executive of Cambridgeshire Business Services made the official presentation of the IIP plaque at the offices this month. This was followed by a champagne reception for staff to celebrate the achievement.

Dickon Sandbach, senior partner, who received the plaque on behalf of the firm, said: "The ethos of the new Investors in People Standard fits exactly with what we have been trying to do since the merger four years ago of the two businesses, Thanks go to everyone for their hard work in helping to achieve this success."

The Investors in People standard provides a framework for improving business performance and competitiveness through good practice in human resource development. To achieve the standard, an organisation must successfully plan how its people need to be trained and developed, support them in their development, and then review the impact on performance. Organisations face a rigorous assessment before they can be awarded the standard.
