Celebrations are under way at Peterborough-based Accent Nene's sheltered housing scheme at Chesterton Court, in Russell Street, St Neots following its recent win of a top award. In the inaugural Elderly Accommodation Counsel for Older People Awards 2010, in London, Chesterton Court achieved the gold award for Retirement Housing (45-49 units) in recognition of the quality of the homes and service it provides for residents.

Commenting on the award win, Accent Nene's Supported Housing co-ordinator Jill Gibbs said: "We had no idea at all that we had even been nominated until we were invited to the awards. We never expected to get gold, so this was a real accolade. It was extra special for us as the votes came directly from our residents and we weren't involved at all."

Guests included Chesterton Court resident Pauline Barnes, who was one of many who submitted positive feedback to the Elderly Accommodation Counsel.

She was delighted that their scheme was a gold winner.

She said: "Moving here is the best thing that I ever did. Our scheme manager, Julia Dawkin, is really good and Accent Nene really listens to us. All in all, we are one big, happy family."
