Bourne-based developer Hawksmead is seeking planning permission for new homes in Oakham, alongside a novel development of homes and "live/work units"which could be used by local artists and craft workers.

Bourne-based developer Hawksmead is seeking planning permission for new homes in Oakham, alongside a novel development of homes and "live/work units"which could be used by local artists and craft workers.The company wants to replace a number of existing derelict buildings in Main Road, Barleythorpe, with six new homes and create a further six new homes.

Four of the homes will be “affordable” properties with special financing arrangements.

The company has also submitted two further planning applications, one for 17 affordable homes on a site adjacent to the existing Studyard development, and one to create a new area of public open space.

Larkfleet Homes, which is building and marketing the homes on behalf of Hawksmead, has already started work on the Studyard scheme to create another 26 homes, including five units which feature first-floor workshops built over a ground-floor garage.

Skills event for young people

ThousandS of school pupils are geared up to attend a new and inspiring skills event being hosted on October 15 and 16, at the Wood Green Animal Shelter, in Godmanchester, near Huntingdon.

More than 50 organisations including colleges, training providers, career organisations and employers are already committed to using Skills Cambridgeshire as a platform to inform and inspire young people within the county.

Everything from hairdressing to creative design and engineering to healthcare will be represented at the event.

Every school and college in the county has the opportunity to make a group visit and get some hands-on ideas of where future careers could take them.

Gill Tipping, from Anglian Water, one many companies taking part, said: “We are committed to investing in education and engaging with young people.”
