Firms Proud to Franchise

Local businesses from around Peterborough joined forces this month as part of the national Proud to Franchise initiative.

Local businesses from around Peterborough joined forces this month as part of the national Proud to Franchise initiative.Peterborough's businesses involved in this first day, held at the Serpentine Centre, included Belvoir Lettings, Cartridge World, Driver Hire and Time for You.

Supported by the British Franchise Association (bfa), Proud to Franchise is an educational campaign to help recognise good ethical franchise businesses, educate people more about this business model and why it benefits the end customer. Peterborough is the centre of this work, with a dedicated group of local businesses championing the campaign as a role model that may well be emulated elsewhere across the UK.

Marketing manager for the bfa Tom Endean said: "This work being carried out by these businesses is being done in addition to their normal working requirements, which highlights the dedication and passion that these businesses have for this work.

"Franchising is a very successful and robust business model and as a result is weathering extremely well in today's economy. This, in turn, can provide a huge benefit to the customer; having a business that they know is locally owned, but is also stable and secure."

Franchise owner of Belvoir Lettings in Peterborough Terry Lucking said: "Consumer interest in our promotion substantially exceed our expectations. We established close to 200 marketing leads.

"Nearly 80 per cent of the consumers we talked to told us they understood what a franchise is, but over 50 per cent were not aware of how buying through a franchised business offers them more protection than other retail formats and retains the income local investment."

Visitors to the promotion received carry bags (fully recyclable) with just short of 200 worth of discount vouchers for the businesses represented plus many useful branded goodies.
