1947: East Midlands Allied Press is formed with merger of Northamptonshire Printing and Publishing Co, the Peterborough Advertiser Co, the West Norfolk and King's Lynn Newspaper Co plus commercial printing sections at Rushden, Kings Lynn and bury St Edmunds. It was overseen by Pat Winfrey, the son of Sir Richard Winfrey.

1952: By now Emap owns 17 local newspapers.

1953: Angling Times was launched on July 10 – its sales reached 100,000 a week two years later.

1956: Emap buys Motor Cycle News for 100.

1958: Garden News was launched.

1961: The Peterborough Evening Telegraph is launched.

1978: Emap launches music magazine Smash Hits and football title Match.

1985: Emap moves into business publishing with purchase of publishing compnay Maclaren.

1990/91: Emap moves into radio with launch of London-based Kiss FM

1991/92 The group moves into France with Choice and Yours.

1995: By now Emap owns eight UK radio stations and numerous exhibitions and trade titles. It also owns 11 per cent of the French consumer magazines.

1996: Emap sells 69 newspapers, including The Evening Telegraph.

1997: 50th anniversary of Emap which employs 5,270 people and publishes about 100 UK consumer magazines.

2007: Emap board of directors announces they are reviewing the business.

January 2008: Shareholders approve sale consumer and radio businesses to German publisher Bauer. It marks the end of Emap in Peterborough.

February 2008: Shareholders are to be asked to approve the sale of the remainder of the business (which includes the business-to-business division and its exhibitions business). If approval is given it will mark the end of the Emap empire.
