Dip won't 'spoil sales outlook'

THE latest CBI figures show a dip in sales from some retailers, yet don't spoil the overall promising summer outlook.

THE latest CBI figures show a dip in sales from some retailers, yet don't spoil the overall promising summer outlook.Paul Glossop, Barclays commercial bank, retail and wholesale specialist for the Peterborough area, said: "The CBI's findings stand in contrast to the good news received last week from the ONS statistics, but do little to affect the signs that declining retail sales are bottoming out.

"The figures indicate a decrease in sales from some retailers, yet this doesn't detract from a promising picture for summer figures and points to consumer spending becoming less weak."

With some retailers rethinking their profit forecasts, sales are stronger than anticipated.

The most successful businesses in the second half of 2009 will be defined by their devotion to stock control and recessionary tactics.
