Coloplast pays in search for talent

AT a time when many companies are still cutting staff or at least freezing recruitment - despite the apparent end of the recession - Peterborough-based Coloplast is paying existing employees to help it find more. The company's Talent Search scheme is offering existing staff a bonus of 600 if they introduce someone to the company who takes up a job there, followed by a further 600 six months later when the new recruit has successfully completed their probation.

Sam Sedwill, head of resourcing & development at the company, said: "Coloplast as a company continues to grow and develop and we want to recruit people who can grow and develop with us. Our existing staff are definitely our best recruiters because they can tell friends and family what it is really like to work here."

In a further bid to ensure that Coloplast gets the best of the region's job seekers, the company has recently extended its already generous terms of employment to give 35 days holiday per year (plus bank holidays) to staff with just two years' service or more.

"There is a culture of 'work hard, play hard' and we want to give people the time to enjoy a proper work life balance," added Sam. Coloplast is a leading supplier of wound, continence and stoma care medical appliances and due to expansion had to relocate its UK head office to modern new premises at Nene Hall on Peterborough Business Park.

The new offices are three times larger than its previous premises to accommodate its growing staff, now numbering about 175 in the offices, 75 at the distribution centre in nearby Orton Southgate and a further 80-plus working in various locations around the country.

Current vacancies with the company include customer care, marketing and sales posts.

"We are proud of the fact that 68 per cent of our current vacancies are filled internally. We've seen people move cross functionally which fosters a broader business understanding among our team and demonstrates our employees' desire to further their careers within Coloplast," said Sam.

The company's specialist healthcare products make a real difference to the lives of the people who use them. This helps to make Coloplast an attractive employer because job satisfaction is very high.

Meanwhile, Coloplast has launched an online ordering site - www.charterhealthcare.co.uk - to give both healthcare professionals and users of its products a new way of ordering.

The company already offers an award-winning level of customer service via its in-house team of specialist telephone advisors.

"However, for those end users who feel uneasy about picking up the telephone, the online ordering service gives a new and completely discreet means of contacting the company regarding its intimate products..
