Business Awards 2009: 'Local' recognition is important - Kiddicare

WHEN partner Elaine Weavers-Wright collected the Retail Award for Kiddicare, she was keen to point out that it was very much a local business and it was "nice" to be recognised as such.

WHEN partner Elaine Weavers-Wright collected the Retail Award for Kiddicare, she was keen to point out that it was very much a local business and it was "nice" to be recognised as such. She said: "We are a Peterborough company - all the people who work for us are from Peterborough."

Established in 1974, Kiddicare is a family-run business and proud to be the largest privately-owned nursery and baby supplier in the UK. As a family-run business, it continues to strive to make life easier for families all over the country.

Its 60,000sq ft showroom in Peterborough is the largest in Europe and offers one of the widest ranges of baby products, accessories and equipment under one roof.

A family retailer, it prides itself on delivering an outstanding hassle-free shopping experience both in store and online, including an extended next-day delivery promise allowing customers to place online orders as late as 5pm for guarantee delivery the following working day.

The company's commitment to its customers means Kiddicare.com is now the UK's number one online baby shop with 400,000 customers placing an order in the last 12 months. It is continually looking to improve upon and expand its services and values all customer feedback which is posted on Kiddicare.com

The company employs 130 full-time members of staff who are all experts in their field thanks to a consistent in-house training programme, excellent customer relations and a passion for delivering first class customer service.

Retail Award, sponsored by Safer Peterborough: This award is given to businesses which demonstrate the highest standards of customer care, after-sales service and quality control.

Business Awards 2009: A night to celebrate city business success - meet all the winners

----------

Highly commended:

WILLOWBROOK Farm Shop is a family-run business which has now been operating for eight years, offering high quality home-produced and locally-sourced meats.

It has grown from the owners taking a stall in farmers' markets six years ago to this thriving business now open seven days a week.

The base of the business is high quality home-reared beef and lamb, but it also stocks local venison and pork, including rare breed Gloucester Old Spot, all butchered on the premises, local seasonal game, home-cured hams and all types of poultry.

WATERSTONES is an international brand with a local feel, passionate about supporting the local community.

The last 12 months have been both really exciting and equally traumatic for the Bridge Street store.

The closure of its sister store in Queensgate in March and the subsequent staff redeployment and redundancies made for an unsettled start. However, the amalgamated staff now work together in one of the most successful store teams in their business. The manager Anna Elmore was nominated and short-listed by its own business as one of the most successful branch managers in the business.

Still recognised as the top branch in East Anglia for signings and events, and hailed by its own head office as "perfection in local marketing", the store has continued ever upward with its quest to bring the city bigger celebrities than ever, such as Jo Brand, Justin Lee Collins and Ken Bruce.
