80 new jobs at growing Peterborough firm

SCORES of new jobs are up for grabs at a Peterborough call centre as bosses seek to expand the business ... again.

Fusion Contact Centre Service, part of the Peterborough-based insurance firm BGL Group, is aiming to fill 80 new roles at its site in Bretton before the end of next month.

The service manages insurance on behalf of some of the UK’s leading financial services brands, including comparethemarket.com.

The jobs bonanza follows a similar large-scale recruitment programme from September to November of last year when 70 new roles were created at the same site, and is intended to help Fusion meet what it describes as “some aggressive targets” over the coming months.

Richard Crane, site manager at Fusion, said: “We are fortunate to be in a position to offer further job opportunities at a time when they are hard to come by. Fusion looks after insurance products for some of the UK’s leading financial services brands so we are looking for enthusiastic people who want to work hard.

“In return, we offer a rewarding, vibrant and challenging environment.”

Peterborough’s unemployment rate has been falling month-on-month since August. In November, the number of Peterborough people claiming Jobseekers Allowance fell by 161 to 5,182.

It means that 4.6 per cent of those able to work are unemployed and while that is still above the national average of 3.6 per cent, is the lowest it has been since May of last year.

Today, the Office for National Statistics releases figures revealing how the rate changed during December.

It is likely, however, the fall has been driven by seasonal work and in previous years the rate has climbed sharply during January.

The 80 roles at Fusion, while being a mix of full-time and part-time, are all permanent posts.

New recruits to Fusion would also have the chance to undertake NVQ, Institute of Leadership and Management and Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications.

Chief executive of the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce John Bridge welcomed the announcement.

He said: “It’s really good that quality jobs are being provided and obviously the training and development that goes with the people who are fortunate to obtain the jobs.”

He added: “This is a very significant amount of jobs being created by a very well performing business.”

The jobs at Fusion are based around customer relations, including for example taking calls for sales, helping existing customers, and responding to email enquiries.

Rachel Brown, who joined Fusion in September during the previous recruitment drive, said: “I’ve really enjoyed working for Fusion so far. “Working on behalf of some highly respected brands, such as Budget Insurance and ibuyeco, I have learnt a lot about insurance in a short space of time.”

You cant win with some people, they whinged and moaned when all the call centres went to india, now they are coming back, their still whinging and moaning because their not quality jobs, well come on Lord Sugar foudations what exactly are "quality jobs"? does anyone know or is it one of the daily mailesque buzz words that are easily bandied about,Seems like most of the work force who actually WORK for the company have little to complain about, or is it the case of someone who had a great Aunt Doris who worked in the call exchange in 1942

#2 Veritas. Dont worry, they always wheel John Bridges out on these stories to spout these pompous platitudes. I wouldn't mind his "quality job" and salary..nice work if you can get it! I actually work in whats left of Peterboroughs once proud skilled engineering base. However If I was ever forced to work in a "vibrant" environment with "aggresive targets" I may well consider an early departure from this mortal coil!

I work there now! This is a fantastic Company, the pay is competitive and the benefits are great. We get all expenses paid family fun days, an annual Ball, pension contribution etc. The opportunities right now are unbelievable! They support further education and qualifications. There are at least 10 people every month getting better jobs within the BGL Group. Whilst the rest of the Country is staring at recession we have nothing but opportunity!

I worked for this company a while back, at that time it was hire and fire, it had a very high staff turnover, pressurised environment, lets just say it would not be high on my list of companies to work for.

I have also worked here for over 12 years and it is nothing like you are all assuming, it is a great company to work for with lots of benefits from at desk massages to a fantastic pay structure the managment team are fair, yes it is hard work but what job is ever easy, the working conditions are great. I would imagine the people who are being negative are those who have worked here and been dismissed and are just being bitter. I could never imagine working anywhere else to be honest and think that those who work here are pleased to have job security and growth in difficult times!

Only 5,182 jobless in Peterborough? These figures are fantastic news! I'd love to see who provided these figures because they probably need to either go back to school or join the Magic Circle.

Oh, I'm sorry, I would have thought that only people who actually work there would have the right to comment on pay, what skills are required and be able to label them as "proper jobs." Forgot that people who don't work there know everything about it! Silly me!

The jobs are usually via agencies, very high turn over of staff, poorly paid, poorly trained and expected to work all hours at basic pay rates. Hardly what you would call proper jobs.

Great! New jobs in Peterborough. Jobs in an insurance call centre? Not so great. Just like the pay I should imagine.

"It’s really good that quality jobs are being provided" says John Bridges. Quality in what sense? since when has a call centre worker position been considered quality. Not so long ago companies were farming these jobs out to India, but now it is cheaper to bring those "unskilled" jobs back to places like Peterborough!
