What developments would you like to see to encourage more people to visit Peterborough at night?

"We are moving towards a caf culture along Bridge Street and into Cathedral Square. Unfortunately, the large chain cafs that have the seating areas all close at around 5pm, making this area dead in the evenings. I would like to see covered seating areas to more independent cafes/restaurants with alcohol licenses. There are also no nice bars/pubs within the centre to draw people in. We only need look to our European neighbours to see how it should be done."

"More venues for people aged 35+, and places suitable for families."

"More lighting at night would be welcomed with a late night walk home from Broadway towards the law courts being pretty poorly lit as you walk through town."

"More police, revamping some of the existing venues, build a live music arena, more traditional pubs."

"Would like to see cinema back at the Broadway, since it has the biggest screen outside the West End and the

Showcase is horrible and difficult to get to. A small arts centre in the town would be good (like Stamford Arts Theatre)."

"Proper policing to stop the yobs terrorising the whole area."

"Traditional pubs, without deafening disco music."

"Buses running at least every 20 mins until 9pm and then hourly to midnight (2am or even 3am on a Friday/Saturday night). Better facilities at the bus station of an evening (the loo is locked at 6pm!)."

"More ordinary pubs where a drink can be enjoyed without loud music and hordes of kids."

"Nicer, chic classy bars, Places where you can sit outside and watch the world go by. I love New York and London, even Stamford is a bit better for restaurants than Peterborough.

Peterborough has got really rough. I want to go somewhere where you can sit with a group of friends or your partner and enjoy a bottle of wine, without having yobs surrounding you! I was disappointed when "The bar" closed down, there is nowhere really nice now at all."

How safe do feel when you visit the city at night?

"Pretty safe. I think Peterborough is as safe as most locations of a similar size."

"Not at all safe. There is too much trouble in the nightclubs and the presence of any police is limited."

"Reasonably. No worse than any other small city."

"It is quite intimidating walking down Broadway. Just walking past makes me feel really nervous. The atmosphere has generally changed in the last 10 years and now it seems much more threatening. "

"Inside the pubs is OK, although the streets outside are not safe. Always use a taxi. There are lots of beggars and drunk economic migrants on the streets around the market."

"Safe enough, there is trouble any- where if you go looking for it."
