A Sawtry schoolboy is preparing for a mammoth horse ride to raise money for a breast cancer charity.Ellis Beamon and his pony, Cookie, will take part in a 12-mile sponsored ride next Saturday to raise funds for Breast Cancer Campaign, which aims to beat breast cancer by funding innovative research to understand how breast cancer develops.

The seven-year-old Sawtry Infants School pupil has been riding since he was three, and spends most of his spare time feeding, grooming and riding his pony.

Ellis will join other riders from the Scallywag Riding Club in Sawtry, who have arranged the sponsored ride, across the countryside.

Ellis said: "I have been riding since I was about three. I can't remember why I started riding, but I love it now.

"I really like jumping and trotting with Cookie, but I don't like it when he steps on my feet.

"I am really looking forward to the ride. I have taken part in competitions before, but I have never ridden this far for charity.

"I hope Cookie will be good for me and won't stop for a grass lunch on the way, otherwise I won't choose him again for my next fund-raising ride.

"I have taken my sponsorship form to school and I am hoping my friends will sponsor me."

Ellis's mum, Tricia, added: "Ellis jumped at his very first chance to raise money by riding his pony. his only reservation was that he had to wear pink.

"His dad, Ivor, will be supporting Ellis on the day and walking the 12 miles alongside him.

"It is a long way for a seven-year-old to go, and we are very proud of him.

"The first thing Ellis does each morning is to check his Justgiving website in anticipation of any more kind donations. he really wants to meet his target."

Ellis's original target was 50, but with the help of friends and family he beat that, and now hopes to raise 100.
