Women join voices for campaign

A NEW four-part women's harmony group is set to sweep aside the stuffy stereotypes of barbershop singers.

A NEW four-part women's harmony group is set to sweep aside the stuffy stereotypes of barbershop singers.Called Rhapsody, the 18-strong ensemble is set to launch next week and as well as showing off their vocal skills and recruiting new members, the women want to raise awareness of a worthy cause.

They are the official sponsors of Cancer Research’s It’s a Girl Thing campaign which aims to beat breast cancer.

Team coordinator Michelle Erdmann, who formed the group from another chorus, said: “We always supported a charity and because we wear hot pink in our rehearsals and we are all women, we picked a breast cancer charity.

The group, led by Ian Russell, who has directed two national competition winners, has exciting plans in the pipeline.

They are hoping to become part of the Sweet Adelines International organisation – a respected group of women singers committed to advancing the art of barbershop singing – and then enter a regional competition in May.

The launch will take place on Tuesday at Orton Waterville Village Hall, Glebe Avenue, Orton Waterville, Peterborough from 8pm.
